Staff – Preschool

Michelle Yon (One’s Teacher) is starting her third full year with us, but she is a veteran, having taught at our summer camps before joining us full time.  Michelle says:  “I am originally from Guayaquil, Ecuador.  I moved to Charlotte 15 years ago from Florida.  I have been married with my husband Roberto for 16 years, and have two terrific kids, Leonardo (12) and Abigail (10).  My family and I enjoy travelling, hiking, and trying new foods.  I have taught preschool for about 5 years now.  My favorite thing about teaching is all the hugs I get from my little friends.”
Jennifer Sullivan(Two’s Teacher) returns as our Lead Teacher.  She has been here 5 1/2 years.  Jennifer says:  “I am the mother to three awesome children.  My son Christian is 12-years-old.  My daughter Haven is 7-years-old and attended preschool here.  My daughter Baylee is 5-months-old.  I am an active member of our church, Cornerstone Family Worship.  I have been blessed to follow my passion in life.  Teaching preschool has been such a rewarding career.  I started taking early childhood classes while still in high school and continued my education at Gaston College.  I have been fortunate enough to work with all ages—birth through after-school—throughout my career.  I have worked exclusively with two-year-olds for the past 18 years and have enjoyed every minute of it!”
Angela Smith (Two’s Teacher Assistant) has been with us almost a year now.  Angela says, ” I am originally from Whiteville, NC, and moved to Charlotte a year ago.  I was blessed to have three children.  My daughter Crystal is 35-years-old, my son Nathan is 31-years-old, and my daughter Danielle is 25-years-old.  I have my Associate’s Degree in Elementary Education from Southeastern Community College in Whiteville.  I am a pastor’s wife of 16 years with Redeeming Power Ministry.  I love traveling, hiking, cooking, serving others, and spending time with my family.  I have been working with all ages of children for about 20 years and love every minute of it!”
Jackie Shropshire(Three’s Teacher) is starting her fourth year with us, and brings a wealth of experience with her. She has a daughter, Jaceline, 15-years-old and a son, Jaceiah, 11-years-old.  Jackie has been working with children since she was 15, and truly has a passion for it.  She adds, “I am an active member at Discipleship Community Church, where I serve on the Leadership Team and the Executive Team, and am also a praise and worship leader.  I am currently enrolled in SCC working towards my Early Childhood Degree.  My hobbies are going to church, spending time with my family, and being the best me that I can be.  My favorite children’s book is The Little Red Hen.”
Robin Hall returns as our Four’s teacher.  She has many years of experience in this age, but works hard to constantly bring new ideas and excitement to the classroom.  Robin says, “I live in Mint Hill with my husband of 25 years.  We have two girls Sky (22) and Lacey (18).  I am originally from Upstate New York (cow country, not city) and moved to North Carolina in 1999, we couldn’t be happier.  I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and cherish every moment as life is a precious gift.  Some of my favorite things include reading, going for walks, spending a relaxing day at the beach, and camping.  I have an A.A.S. degree in Early Childhood Education from Cazenovia College and have had the opportunity to work with several ages of children since graduation.  (Let’s just say I have been doing this quite a while.)  I absolutely love working with children and watching them grow in many ways.  I do my best to make sure the children are given all the necessary tools to prepare them for kindergarten with love and encouragement.  This is my 7th year of teaching here, where I feel like a part of the family and loving working.” Robin’s favorite quote:  “Children must be taught how to think, not what to think.”  Margaret Mead
Sally Swanson is starting her seventh year at this preschool, her twentieth year as Director.  Ms. Sally says, “I grew up in Greenville, NC, and went to UNC-CH where I met my husband Gary.  We have been in Charlotte over 30 years now, and we’ve been married 40+ years!  We have two children, Michael and Sarah, who are both in their 20s and living in this area.  I enjoy knitting, card making, reading, and puzzles.  My vision is to continue the school’s philosophy of being a loving, caring, and nurturing place for children.  Cherish your children–they grow up before you know it!  Lay good foundations of happy family times, and hopefully, you will enjoy every age and stage of their development.  Our family still enjoys doing so many things together, like travelling, attending sporting events, and game nights.”
